OUR TRAVELS

South West Of England ...
I do not really know where to start. There are so many beautiful and interesting places in the south and west of England, that there is enough material for separate website. We loved every minute spent there.
Traveling in England is very interesting. Each region has its own characteristics, crafts, food and even the local dialect. In each, even the smallest village, you can easily reach the Tourist Information and learn something interesting. People are accommodating and very friendly, making it easy to find local gems. England is indeed dotted with museums and ruins of castles.
Cornwall and the Jurassic Coast.
On the way to Cornwall we stopped in Somerset to see our good friend Adam, who promised to show us the incredible Jurassic Coast. This is an area of more than 150 kilometres of coastline between the Dorset and East Devon that shows more than 185 million years of history of our planet. Dotted with magnificent rock formations, such as Durdle Door and small fairy-tale towns like Lyme Regis, Beer and Sidmouth, the whole region is a great feast for the eye and the spirit.
Cornwall was a great surprise. The colour of the ocean and architecture of whole region is more like coastline towns in countries of southern Europe, than the United Kingdom. Lots of small towns with fishing ports, like St Ives, Penzance, or the ruins of Tintagel Castle, where according to legend, King Arthur himself took the lessons of chivalry. It is a paradise for amateurs of wind surfing, fresh seafood and old legends. One of the prettiest places we have seen was Longships Lighthouse, located at the tip of Land's End. Built in 1795, with a height of 35 m, located about half a kilometre deep into the ocean, it still warn ships about risks on the see.
Stonehenge, Shaftesbury & Canterbury.
The city of Canterbury is famous for its late Gothic cathedral, which is one of the most important places of worship for the Anglican Church. It is one of two (next to the Palace of Lambeth) formal headquarters of Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Church of England and the entire Anglican Community. Shaftesbury is famous with its picturesque Golden Hill, often used in as a scene of historical movies. In the eighteenth and nineteenth century the city was a major centre for the manufacture of buttons. The Gold Hill Museum has many interesting facts about it.
Stonehenge is one of those places that every tourist has a plan to visit. This stone structure was built around 3000 BCE and probably dedicated to the cult of the moon and the sun. This is one of the most recognizable megalithic monuments in Europe and the world, a UNESCO world heritage site. The building itself consists of several stone rings that were probably used to predict solar eclipses.
